Bill Gates on energy: Innovating to zero! Miracles Needed.
Got a great idea, innovation,invention, green-innovation?
First write it down in detail. Don't discuss it with others as yet.
Research the concept to confirm its originality.
Do a search at the Patent website in your country or let your patent attorney do it.
Speak to a patent attorney.
If it's original to the marketplace, see if it warrants a patent or trademark protection.
You may want to file a Provisional Patent first to so that you can discuss it with potential manufactureres in the industry for licensing or with investors. A provisional patent holds the date of your product concept on file with the patent office so you can safely discuss with potential manufacturers and licensees.
You then have one year from the time the provisional patent is filed to actually file the patent with the Patent Office. The Provisional is not a patent. Once it's filed, the clock is ticking. Use it wisely to see if you have a marketable concept.
Be sure to obtain a simple one sheet Non-Disclosure Agreement NDA.
Have potential licensees sign your NDA before discussions or let your patent attorney do it for you.
Patents and Licensing can be a long drawn out journey - but the pay offs for the innovator and society can be HUGE.
Do your homework and rest assure, there is ALWAYS a way for the man or woman who is advancing society in some meaningful way.
It's been said that one of the richest places on earth is the cemetary, for there lies millions of rich ideas never pursued in faith. Don't let that be you.
THINK BIG & Innovate!
